The 2022 Highlander continues forward with its recent 2020 redesign. Sitting as a family SUV, the Highlander brings a head-turning bold presence.

The base L trim level of the Highlander comes well equipped, including features not found in other base model vehicles. This trim level comes with LED headlights, remote keyless entry and ignition, along with tri-zone automatic climate control. The infotainment software is controlled through an 8-inch touchscreen and is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. The base model can also act as a wi-fi hotspot.
The L trim does not compromise on safety. Standard is Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.5+, one of the best safety suites on the market today. Some of the safety systems found within the suite include lane departure alerts as well as pre-collision alerts.
The LE trim level adds a few more things to the already impressive feature list. This trim adds foglights, a height-adjustable power liftgate, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Adding to safety, Blind-spot monitoring is included to help decrease the likelihood of a collision when changing lanes.
Introduced last year, the XSE trim level is for those looking for a sportier aesthetic. On the exterior, it changes the front grille and spoiler to appear more aggressive. The rear bumper is also changed to properly show off the twin-tip exhaust.
The XSE version upgrades from 18-inch wheels up to 20-inch alloy wheels. Additionally, the XSE comes with a sport-tuned suspension to improve on-road handling.
The XLE replaces the bench seats in the second row with two captain’s chairs for added comfort. The seats are all now upholstered in SofTex with the front seats heated. The XLE also comes with roof rails and a sunroof.
Additional technology features include a wireless charging pad and a larger 7-inch display found in the instrument panel.
The Limited trim adds leather upholstery and ventilation to the front seats. Other convenience features include front and rear parking sensors as well as a hands-free liftgate. The sound system is also upgraded to a 1200W 11-speaker JBL system.
The top-of-the-line Platinum trim comes with everything that you could ever want. The regular sunroof is upgraded to a larger panoramic version. The 8-inch touchscreen is also replaced with a massive 12.3-inch display.
The Platinum trim comes with plenty of new features to make driving the Highlander that much more enjoyable. The trim adds adaptive headlights, a heads-up display, and a digital rearview mirror. It also comes standard with a surround-view camera system, giving a top-down view of the Highlander for easier parking. Second-row passengers also benefit from this trim as the second-row now features heated seats as well.
The 2022 Toyota Highlander comes with a powerful 3.5L V6 engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine is capable of outputting 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. Even with the impressive engine, the Highlander is able to deliver outstanding fuel economy. The city/highway/combined MPG of the FWD version sits at 21/29/24. For the AWD version, the fuel efficiency is rated at 20/27/23.
For those looking to haul around more than just people and cargo, the powerful V6 allows the Highlander to achieve a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.
