Toyota's All-New Prius v for 2012

One of several new Prius models joining the Japanese automakers 2012 model-year lineup is the Toyota Prius v. The hope is that the "Prius Family" will grow, offering the original Prius, a compact, a van-sized model, and more to the public.

The Prius v sits on a larger platform than the 10 year old sedan and seats 5 comfortably. But that's not why you really want to test drive a Prius at Walser Toyota, located at 4401 American Blvd. West in Bloomington, MN, here's why: With a range of well over 500 miles on a single charge, Prius v has been officially rated at 44 mpg city, 40 mpg highway. And with all that room, you need a bit more horsepower. That comes from the 80 horsepower gas powerplant, with help from two electric motors that brings it up to 134 horses and 153 pound-feet of torque. It may not blast through stop signs and traffic lights, but the roomier, 5-door hybrid is larger than the competitions' crossover models.

According to the Detroit News, "2012 Toyota Prius v has reason to be smug." For once, that word is not an insult.1

With a starting price of $27,160 before tax incentives, it's quite possible the all new 2012 Prius v could become your family hauler for just $20,000.
